It’s a long story but the end result is that I am missing the drivers seat from my coupe. The remaining passenger seat is original, looks new and has 33k miles on it. It has hardly ever been sat in and the car has always been garaged. I checked with SMS fabrics to try to get matching material to recover a used drivers seat that I had acquired but the samples that they sent me just don’t match. They claim that my interior is just faded but I don’t believe that it is. You can clearly see brown tones and differences in the patterns. They insist that this is the original fabric…is this just so that they can sell it for higher than normal prices? Who knows. What do you think?
Hi, Nice blog. I’ve owned and restored 40+ 5.0 foxes so I can feel your pain on this. You might try comparing the samples to the fabric on the front underside of your passenger seat. This area is upholstered but not exposed to much direct or incident UV and probably looks a bit different than the fabric on the seating surface. You’d of course have to pull the bolts to get a good view but you might find that the samples are better match to that virgin 93 fabric.
Good luck,
Marco
If you looks closely, the pattern isn’t even the same. I tried everywhere – even the front under/leading edge of the rear seats – it’s just not the same color. I think the sad truth is that there isn’t any more of this (exact) fabric commercially available.
